Back disorders are the most common form of ill health at work and costs the UK economy estimated £7bn a year.  The exact cause of back pain is often unclear but back pain is more common in jobs that involve driving, especially over long distances or machinery operated over rough ground.

Driving exposes the vehicle’s occupants to whole-body vibration that may include the shocks and jolts that are believed to increase the likelihood of injury or pain in the lower back.  It is estimated that 9.0 million workers are exposed to Whole Body Vibration each week and a staggering 383,000 workers are exposed to magnitudes greater than 15 VDV.

skeleton_Correct_SeatingDuring a working shift driving a bus, coach, construction machine or truck, the human back goes through every extremity not only from the driving position but from the vehicles vibrations either from the terrain the vehicle is working on or simple "jolts" created on the road from potholes. Even a bus driver taking fares can go through many twists and turns throughout their working day as they greet passengers or navigate bus stops through heavy traffic checking mirrors.

A Common Misconception is a really soft spongy seat is the best option for maximum comfort, whilst this is true for the first hour of sitting, quickly the body does find this uncomfortable and occupants start to move in the seat trying to gain a suitable posture. In order to maintain a low level of VDV the seat must be firm with good support and with various adjustment levels of the seat to change the vibration direction on the human body throughout the working day.

draken_al_transpBack in 1949, its something Be-Ge's founder realised when he introduced to the market the World's first suspended driver’s seat and fitted our seats in Scania trucks. In context the rest of the truck market at that time were using basic non suspension seats and even wooden benches in some vehicles. 

Our Be-Ge driver seat designs are based on the knowledge that different applications require different seats. The vibrations produced by construction vehicles or the small dimensions in forklifts require completely different seat designs than those in trucks and buses, we understand that the most important feature on any seat is to be able to make personal adjustments to suit the stature, weight, and working environment for the driver.

The key to any suspension seat is to be adjustable to the drivers weight, if we take for instance a 75kg driver on a maximum suspension setting, their weight would have very little effect on the suspension unit and they might as well be sat on a static seat. That's why at Be-Ge we offer as a feature weight independent height adjustment of 100mm, so the resistance on the suspension unit can be adjusted to suit the drivers weight.

For instance our patented Rotolift unit with foot pedestal enables a bus driver to rotate their seat in the direction of fare paying passengers so they can take the fares forward facing and greet the passengers "eye to eye" on the bus without the need to twist their body, once they have completed the fares another press on the foot pedal allows them to turn the seat towards driving direction.

The controls for the quick air release for comfortable entry and exit and the stepless height adjustment can be mounted on either side of the seat. This model can also be equipped with a seat cushion extension, which provides easier adjustment of the length of the seat in order to sit in the most ergonomical position.

As Military vehicles move into the new European Type Approval legislation, the challenge of finding a M1 vehicle seat which is not only customised for combat situations, but also meets the road traffic laws standard to a civilian car is quite a challenge.

The specialist nature of the vehicle means it simply cannot be compromised with a standard "off the shelf" Automotive seat. Other factors such as "Duty of Care" also have to be considered to produce a M1 vehicle seat that not only meets the stringent 13.5 Kn test, but also to manufacture a vehicle seat to be safe for military personnel in heavy full combat clothing including body armour & helmet who not only go beyond the standard testing weights for M1 seating, but also their equipment takes them beyond the standard seat belt "H Point" so a seat that meets the whiplash standards.

The new Type Approval clearly states that the exemption for Military vehicles intended for road use is no longer allowed (only vehicles engaged in war activities). The Vehicles must meet, as far as possible, road vehicle legislation and currently the legislation has set a starting point of vehicles defined as Troop carriers, Military base vehicles, Military Police – Must be Type Approved, other vehicles which are classed as UOR’s (Urgent Operational Requirements) Must meet technical requirements as far as possible

When designing a M1 vehicle seat for the Military we also have to take into account a number of other factors which used to have exemption, not only do we need to meet M1 Seating requirements for the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval – 2007/46/EC, we must also comply with Vibration at Work – 2002/44/EC and Noise at Work – 2003/10/EC

Our wealth of experience in supplying M1 vehicle seating for standard road vehicles has filtered through to our range of military seating applications, we have listened to Military personnel to come up with seating solutions that are not only safe, but meet the legislation and more importantly still allow them to operate in their duties with a seat designed around the vehicle.

Be-Ge offer a wide range of Military M1 tested seating solutions with added features such as rotation, reclining, tip/fold, sliding, height adjustment and our 500 Series seating range is supplied with removable centre section and head rest unit that "absorbs" the occupant wearing helemts and bullet proof vests, to integrate the occupant as part of the seat, offering protection and minimising whiplash.

Another option for our military seat is that it can also be delivered with ballistic protection in the seat cushion and in the seatback. This gives the user optimal protection against shrapnel or bullets.Our ballistic protection is tested to : STANAG I class.

Be-Ge introduce our 8018 Series Seat for Reach & Fork Trucks

Abeko_stolBe-Ge are pleased to introduce our 8018 Mechanical suspended seat especially designed for reach trucks or similar vehicles with limited cab space, which are built to be driven on smooth floors.

By placing the suspension unit behind the seat’s backrest, the built in height becomes very low but without decreasing the seats comfort. The seat has simple and ergonomically placed controls for weight adjustment, back adjustment and length adjustment.

The seat is available with both a low and high backrest, the high version is with advantage used in combination with headrest for an even more increased comfort during long working phases and is already as standard equipped with adjustable lumbar support.

Be-Ge is specified as a seat of choice in many leading OEM manufacturers machines. Our seats are renowned for their robust ergonomic design which can be used in arduous outside and cold store environments.

Weight adjustment is at the front of the seat and can be adjusted between 45-130 kg.

Backrest can be adjusted in five steps between 4°-21°.
